Feller's Day-Off
Lesson Plan by Mr. Bauer

Lesson Title : A Day-off at the Museum
Objectives #1: Students will "Experience Art" in a variety of settings and comment on their experiences
Objectives #2: Students will use a variety of different technology to comment and describe their personal experiences

Day's Agenda: Field Trip starts with presentation about the different ways that people experience art, you never know when the opportunity may present itself to "experience art" whether in a public setting, in a museum, or even a private collection.

Questions:
* Have you ever "experienced" art before? where, in what setting? (ask a few students to describe their own personal experiences)
* How is "Experiencing art" different from just "looking or viewing" art? (comments)
* Is going to a museum, walking through the galleries, eves-dropping on what others are talking about, watching other people, stopping to think about what you have seen, getting something to eat and/or drink, all part of the experience???

Our "goal for today" is to catch others "experiencing art".
ohhh yeeahhhhhhh!!! and in the process, "experience art" yourself.

Art Activities: #1 Artist comparisons
In the video of Ferris Bueller's Day-Off
Ferris, Cameron and Sloane looked at several works of art by "famous artists".
(Monet, Degas, Mary Cassatt and more..)

Your assignment is to identify as many works as possible
and find similar works attributed to the same artists in our trip to the museum.
Compile a list of artists and identify the work in the film
compare and contrast with works by each artist with those found on our trip today.
Following our trip we will discuss our findings.

Art Activities: #2 Experiencing Art
Before leaving for our "Day-Off" several students will be assigned video equipment, to document our groups "experiences"

Digital Camera - students should take pictures of others "experiencing"
art.
Digital Movie "Flip" Camera - to take video interviews of what others thought about the artworks and what they are "experiencing."
MP3 Recorders - to record audio interviews of participants.

During our next class meeting, we will be editing, assembling and creating a Multi-media presentation chronicling our "Day-Off"

ONE THING I FORGOT TO MENTION...in my presentation:
The "Center piece" of our tour - I envision our final stop being
The Schragger Collection!
One work in specific
(one that Janet did not talk about during our class visit - unfortunately!)
Is a large photograph, (situated next to the light box piece)
the photograph shows several people "experiencing" a work of art.
Although the work is not immediately identifiable, the wall description reveals the work as Michelangelo's David. (in the reflection of a viewers sunglasses, the faint image is revealed"
The work demonstrates the awe and wonderment of the group and their "experience",
and hopefully will parallel that of the students.
